`Tis the season….for broken, damaged hair? It can be if you don`t take the necessary steps to protect your delicate locks from cold winter weather.
Cold temperatures contribute to dryer, more dehydrated hair strands. Also, more split ends and dandruff, which can all contribute to added breakage and fallout.
Luckily though, there are things you can do to protect your hair for the long-haul.
- Amp up the moisture. Protect your strands with a deep condition treatment once per week to help lock in moisture and replenish moisture that’s been lost to dry air. Running a humidifier during the night can also protect your hair from over-drying (and your skin and lips, too).
- Go easy on heat styling. Over-styling your hair with blow dryers, straighteners, curling irons and hot rollers further damage already delicate strands — this contributes not only to more flyaways and split ends, but also hair breakage and fallout. If you do choose to hear style, always use a conditioning heat protectant first.
- When it comes to washing, skip a couple of days during the week. Washing your hair too frequently during winter months can strip it of its natural oils, causing dryness and breakage.
- Load up on water. Staying hydrated from the inside out translates into more hydrated cells all over your body, including the ones in hair follicles.
