From ultra-long “Cher Hair” to platinum (and multi colored!) locks, 2017 is the year of anything goes as far as hair is concerned. Other trending styles include using blunt bobs, undone braids, and high pony tails. But getting runway ready hair can do a lot of damage to the shaft, follicles and roots of your hair. In order to minimize the damage, we offer these tips:
Use Care When Combing
Straight hair should only be brushed out when dry, and then only sparingly. Brush or comb tangles out of the ends before brushing from closer to the scalp. If you have curls, use a wide tooth comb or a wet brush and only use them when your hair is wet to reduce breakage and split ends.
Less Heat!
Use a microfiber towel to get the most water out of your hair after washing. Let it air dry the rest of the way instead of using a hair dryer. If you’re addicted to your straightener or curling wand, make sure you’re using them on low heat and only holding them to your hair for a couple seconds! Better yet, Google “no heat hair styling” and find out the best ways to get curls or straight hair without damaging heat.
Let Your Hair Down
Literally. Don’t keep braids, ponytails, extensions, or cornrows in your hair for extended periods. When you take them out, keep your hair down for a day or two so your hair and scalp can relax.
